Rebozo Consultation
How to choose the right Rebozo?
Shorter Rebozo
This type of cotton rebozo is shorter in size. The fabric thickness and fiber density are not as intense, making it ideal for pelvic wrapping during summer months. This rebozo is especially suitable for women of slender build. I prefer to use it as a massage rebozo for clients or as a menstrual rebozo. Its length is 210cm x 65cm.
However, this rebozo is not suitable for pregnancy, as its length is insufficient for adequate abdominal support and wrapping. It is also not ideal for women of larger sizes or those seeking a warm companion for long, winter evenings.
Pregnancy Rebozo
This type of rebozo is the longest, thickest, and strongest we offer. The traditional patterned closed-weave rebozo is beautiful, supple, and strong. Most of them are very soft right out of the package, and thanks to their closed weave, they are less prone to thread damage than open-weave rebozos.
This rebozo is ideal during pregnancy. It can range from 3 m to 3.3 m in length. Before choosing your new rebozo, remember to measure your waist and consider what you need from the rebozo.
Universal Rebozo
If you are unsure which rebozo to choose for your first purchase, you cannot go wrong with a closed-weave rebozo in dimensions of 2.7m to 2.9m (the most common sizes we stock).
This rebozo can be used for pelvic wrapping during menstruation, as well as in practice if you plan to care for and massage your clients with a rebozo. It is highly probable that you will also use it later in pregnancy, and it will keep you pleasantly warm during cold winter evenings.
Open-Weave Rebozo
An open-weave rebozo is very well suited for body wrapping and massages. The open weave means it conforms very closely to the body, which is excellent for rocking and rebozo massage. These are my favorite rebozos for the Cerrada (bone closing) ritual, as they are very easy to work with. They are also thinner, lighter, and therefore ideal for travel, transport, and packing. However, the open weave makes them prone to snagging threads, but if you pull the thread in the opposite direction, it easily retracts back into the weave.

A Few Tips You Should Know About Rebozo
If you haven’t heard about rebozo until now, you are on the right page!
Ethical Sourcing
Each rebozo is a unique, hand-woven piece, individually crafted by a single weaver. The material is soft and breathable, made from 100% cotton. The finished rebozo provides financial compensation for the weaver, the weaving company, shipping and customs companies, and finally for the intermediary, in this case, us at steamingvagaia! Your rebozo travels all the way from Mexico. We thank you for considering all of this when investing in a rebozo.
Care
Caring for your rebozo involves gentle washing, ideally by hand or in a washing machine on a delicate cycle at temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius, drying in the shade, and tying the tassels before washing to prevent tangling. Using eco-friendly detergents and avoiding tumble dryers and bleaches is also important.
History
The rebozo, in its simplicity, is a long rectangular shawl with a rich history rooted in Mexican culture. It evolved from indigenous weaving traditions and integrated Spanish influences during the colonial period. Originally used for practical purposes such as carrying goods and providing warmth, it became a symbol of cultural identity, femininity, and social status. Its versatility extends from everyday wear to ceremonial use and even as a tool in childbirth.
